About your Exciting Guides!
At The Italian On Tour, every experience you will be part of has been carefully curated and planned by our founders Giovanni and Chantelle. Giovanni, your Trip Experience Officer, is perfectly bilingual in English and Italian. He is a local that was raised in Ascoli Piceno and takes pride in sharing his region of Italy with every guest. He will introduce you to the local traditions while always keeping an eye on your comfort and satisfaction throughout your trip.
In addition, to always being accompanied by your Trip Experience Officer, when we visit historical sites we will always have experts on hand. We use official English-speaking guides when available to ensure no questions go unanswered and that your experience is culturally and historically fulfilling.
Do you offer private tours?
We offer both, private and small group tours.
What are the main differences with regular tours?
Our group tours are scheduled on fixed departure dates and are of varying lengths, such as 5-7-9 days. These groups are small, ALWAYS less than 8 people.
Our private tours are tailored to your needs and offered year-round. They can be of different lengths and are completely customized to fit your needs.
To design your own tour, we start by getting to know you better, finding out what your preferences are.
Tell us what you are interested in and how long you would like your visit to be.
How many people are in your party?
Is it a special occasion that you are celebrating?
Are you interested in cooking rustic cuisine? What is your level of experience?
Do you wish to learn about history and visit specific historical sites?
How much structure do you wish to have in your day?
Are excursions important to you? Do you wish to walk more and maybe hike or bike?
We are capable of designing and recommending trips that have the perfect balance of cultural and gourmet experiences, as well as relaxation throughout your stay.
How many people are on your tours?
We are proud to guarantee to never have more than 8 people on all of our tours. We believe the best way to enjoy a new place is with the outmost attention from your Trip Experience Officer and not in a large group.
We promise you will never feel lost in the crowd!
Instead the intimacy and care of our small group will immerse you in Italy’s culture, allowing you to feel a little more Italian with everyday that passes during stay.
What is the focus of the Tours?
At The Italian On Tour, your journey will never only concentrate on one aspect of Italy. We have chosen your activities to reflect the best that Italy has to offer. This means that you will experience a balance of history, gastronomy and wine culture as part of your journey with us.
However, if you have specific activities in mind you can always contact us about designing your fully customized, private tour.
Is it possible to change sample itineraries?
Even though it is not possible to change the general itinerary of a scheduled departure date, at The Italian on Tour we are dedicated to accommodating any request that is put forth by our clients. We can offer shorter versions of existing trips based on your needs at a pro-rated price. The private tours are completely customizable. All our sample itineraries are only seen as a starting point and can be adjusted based on your heart’s desire.
What level of fitness to I need to participate in your tours?
At The Italian on Tour we welcome anyone with a moderate level of physical fitness. You should be comfortable on your feet for up to 3-4 hours with short breaks and confident on the cobblestones and uneven surfaces. The city of Ascoli is mostly flat and easy to get around on foot. Many Italian Borghi (villages) we will visit have steep roads and require walking up and down stairs to admire the best views and panoramas. However, we will always do our best to accommodate everyone, including offering alternative arrangements where possible. Nothing present on our tours is too demanding for an average person as we understand you are here to relax, and enjoy your vacation.
On a Private Tour it is the client that ultimately chooses exactly how much walking or physical activity they would like to be included. Marche offers uncharted territory for biking and beautiful hikes in our many national parks. For anybody interested in exploring Marche by bike or on foot we also offer options customized to your liking.
What is the best way to travel to Ascoli?
Ascoli Piceno is well connected and is served by three main airports: Ancona, Pescara and Rome. There are multiple daily buses that arrive straight from Rome to Ascoli and run year-round. Ancona and Pescara are both approximately one hour and 15 minutes away. Rome is located 3 hours west of Ascoli. We offer pick-up services from all three airports, as well as train stations for an additional cost.
COOKING AND TASTING LOCAL CUISINE
Is it possible to take a cooking class while on your tours?
Most of our tours offer cooking classes with expert local chefs. On our private tours, these classes can be longer and will include more of what you want. Cooking classes are for all-levels and concentrate on traditional dishes typical to the region of Marche.
Are cooking skills needed to participate in cooking courses on your trips?
All our cooking classes are meant to be fun and exploratory. The local chefs will teach you about traditional dishes, as well as modern Italian cuisine. You do not need a particular set of skills, as long as you bring a great appetite and passion to the kitchen, you will be just fine!
We also offer more involved cooking classes for those people who are more seasoned at home chefs and who wish to learn some of the more complex local dishes.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
We can accommodate most allergies and dietary restrictions. We would kindly ask you to let us know in advance so we can assure the best options are available at every meal. (Although our experts do their best, we cannot guarantee no incidences of cross-contamination).
Will there be tastings of local products including wines?
All our tours include tastings of local wines, and extra virgin olive oils. All the meals included on our tours use partners that take pride in selecting local, top quality ingredients that represent the best of what is in season.
